India is the spice capital of the world!

Indian food varies by region with local spices, herbs, fruits, and vegetables. India is known to be the spice capital of the world because it produces over 70% of the world’s spices. The reputation of a cook relies on their curry. Every cook has their own unique blend which perfectly balances the spices. Black pepper is considered “black gold” which dates back to 2,000 B.C.E. Many popular dishes originated from other countries. Potatoes, tomatoes, and chillies originated from Portugal. Saffron was brought from Greek or Roman traders. Naan originated in Persia. Chicken Tikka Masala was first made by a British Pakistani chef in Scotland in 1971.
